By Father Eric Hoog, C.Ss.R. LCDR, CHC, USN (Ret.) Our founder, St. Alphonsus Liguori, was deeply devoted to Mary, and since our congregation was founded in 1732, we Redemptorists have had a special relationship with her. This relationship became even stronger in 1866, when Pope Pius IX entrusted the ancient Byzantine icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help to us and gave us the mandate to “make her known throughout the world.” That’s why her icon appears so prominently on this website and on most of our printed materials.
Did you know you can listen to podcasts by Redemptorist priests and lay associates in English and Spanish most days of the week? These brief talks—usually five minutes or less— are a great way to start your day, as our preachers reflect on the daily Gospel readings, the lives of the saints, and how to live our faith today.
This September, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Brooklyn will begin a yearlong celebration of its 125th anniversary. Festivities will include special Masses, a Jubilee Memorial Book of memories and photos, Homecoming Saturday, and a few good parties, said Father John McKenna, C.Ss.R.
