Lenten reflection, day 24

I think all of us want to live a decent life that is guided by a moral compass. Each of us wants to be a whole person who has relationships with God and others.

In today’s Gospel the scribe’s question to Jesus is about how to be a whole person who has integrity. What is the most important commandment or guide that will bring me this morally decent life?

Jesus quotes Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18 on love of God and love of neighbor. The love that flows from God and is directed back to God and to our neighbor is at the heart of our Christian faith. This love is the foundation for all we do.

Often we lose our way and need a reminder to return to the fundamentals of our faith. Today’s readings encourage us to continue the Lenten journey of renewal and spiritual regeneration.

May we direct our time and efforts today in heartfelt, loving actions to God and charitable works of love to our neighbor.
