Students prepare for novitiate

The end of the college academic year for many means final exams and packing up to leave for the summer. It’s no different for our Redemptorist students who finished their classes at St. John’s University in New York this week.

Many of them will have some vacation time before heading to summer assignments in parishes. But several were packing up all of their belongings (pictured at right) because they won’t return to the formation residence in the Bronx in the fall. Instead, they’ll be moving to Toronto, Canada, for their novitiate year.

The year is one of intense spiritual formation and study. Novices take a break from their academic studies to focus on Redemptorist spirituality. They receive the Redemptorist habit for the first time, and at the end of the year they will profess their first vows.
