The Belles Chapel nestled in the countryside village of Belles on the Caribbean Island of Dominica is in the midst of a much-needed renovation, which aims to restore the chapel as a place of worship, as well as transform it into a place of shelter during emergencies. The project has inspired hope and unity within the community as it demonstrates the church’s commitment to their spiritual, social, and human needs. Once finished, Belles Chapel will serve as a vital resource to the people of Belles.
The renovation will see new doors and windows installed, ramps and railings added for accessibility, fully accessible restrooms, new flooring, improved lighting, reinforced structural support, and most significantly, an improvement to the sanctuary to reflect the sacred purpose of the chapel. The project is on schedule despite some material shortages and unpredictable weather conditions. It is on track to be completed in March of this year. Fr. Joseph Hung Duc Tran, C.Ss.R., Pastor at St. Joseph Parish, is overlooking the Belles Chapel project. It is through his hard work and determination, as well as the collaborative efforts of international organizations, private donors, and the United Nations Development Programme, that the Belles Chapel is being transformed to continue to spread the Word of God, our Redemptorist Mission, and provide a place of refuge, when needed, to the people of Belles.
