For more than 20 years the Church has observed the annual World Day for Consecrated Life—a celebration begun by Pope St. John Paul II—on the Feast of the Presentation (Candlemas), February 2.

The occasion will be marked in parishes on the following weekend, February 3-4, 2018.

On the ancient feast of Candlemas candles are blessed, symbolizing Christ, the light of the world. Those in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to everyone. The celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life is transferred to the following Sunday in order to highlight the gift of consecrated persons for the whole Church.
