This icon was entrusted to the Redemptorists in 1866 by Pope Pius IX who commissioned us to "make her known" throughout the world. Since then, devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary under this title has spread far and wide.

Blessed Bishop Nicholas Charnetsky and his companions—
Bishop Vasyl Velychkovsky, Father Zenon Kovalyk, and Father Ivan Ziatyk—were among 25 Ukrainian martyrs beatified during the papal visit to Lviv in 2001.

Jun. 30 Blessed Gennaro Maria Sarnelli, C.Ss.R.

Gennaro Sarnelli was born in Naples, Italy, on September 12, 1702. As a young man caring for the sick in the Hospital for the Incurables, he felt the call to the priesthood and got to know St. Alphonsus Liguori.

Ordained a priest in 1732, he dedicated himself especially to the catechesis of young boys and to the rehabilitation of girls at risk of becoming prostitutes. 

He died in 1744 at age of 42 and was beatified by Pope St. John Paul II on May 12, 1996.
