Aug. 1 Solemnity of St. Alphonsus Liguori, Founder of the Redemptorists

Celebrate with us today the feast of St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, the founder of the Redemptorists and a Doctor of the Church. St. Alphonsus started the Redemptorists in 1732 and from its humble beginnings in the hills outside Naples, Italy, the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer has grown to more than 5,300 members serving in 78 countries worldwide.

Aug. 2-7 Dialogue 2010, Notre Dame Retreat House, Canandaigua, NY

A retreat for young adults, ages 18-35, from Redemptorist parishes throughout North America. The week includes prayer, fellowship, and time to discuss the needs of the Church and the role that young adults play in guiding the Church toward the Redemptorist charism, “to serve the poor and most abandoned.” $275/person.

Aug. 11 Profession of Vows of Frater Kevin Bellott & Frater Jacky Merilan, Dominica, West Indies

Two Redemptorist students who are studying for the English-speaking Region of the Caribbean will profess their vows together. Frater Kevin Bellott will make his final profession, and Frater Jacky Merilan will profess his first vows.

Oct. 5 Feast of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos

Join us in celebrating the feast of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, a Redemptorist priest from Bavaria who came to the U.S. as a missionary. He preached and served in parishes throughout the eastern United States. He died of yellow fever in New Orleans in 1867. His cause for canonization is under consideration in Rome.
