For more than 170 years, he has been the street walking, kitchen-sitting, plain-speaking, ordinary looking priest/companion who fully believed in bountiful redemption for all — not only for the poor and most abandoned — but for himself. Maybe that's why the people could tell that he was a Redemptorist priest.
— Fr. John McGowan, C.Ss.R.

In Matthew's Gospel, the rich young man asked Jesus: "What more can I do to have eternal life?" The path taken toward exploring a vocation to religious life always begins with a question.

What more can I do? How can I help others? Why do I feel a sense of "something missing?" How can I feel more fulfilled?

The source of that fulfillment lies in Christ. Perhaps you are being called to serve God in religious life. How do you know?

Let me tell you about our life in community, in the joyous fulfillment we share following Christ as Redemptorist priests or brothers. Your questions may find answers in the words that follow.

In Christ's Love,
Fr. Richard Bennett, C.Ss.R.

Our Habit

A candidate receives the Redemptorist habit at the beginning or during the novitiate year. St. Alphonsus chose to have his followers wear the standard clerical dress worn by priests in his native Naples, Italy. Alphonsus also insisted the Redemptorists wear a 15-decade rosary as part of the habit. Instead of a cross at the end, however, there is a medal with St. Alphonsus on one side and Jesus the Redeemer on the other.
